Pour Your Own Beer?? Sign Me Up!!

B.C. Brewery logo

Rich Mak was a home brewer, but his vision came to life with his brewery. B.C. Brewery, almost known as, 'Balt County Brewing' opened its doors in Hunt Valley, MD in early 2018. His vision was to create a place where locals could gather, have a great time, and enjoy a wide range of excellent craft beer.

He focused his beers on the more lighter options - beers with lower alcohol content and for people who are used to drinking... Miller Lite, not IPAs, because that's what people in this area care for -- I being one of them.

I'll be honest, I never heard of B.C. Brewery until I did a quick Google search to find breweries near me. Christian and I stumbled across BCB and decided to go for this blog -- I'm glad we did!!

The brewery is located in an industrial park so parking is pretty decent. Once you walk inside, the atmosphere is entirely different. There are lights hanging from the ceilings, and seats and tables everywhere.

The brewery was meant to make people feel as though they are a part of a community. And WOW did they succeed!! They are very family and dog friendly. They have games (darts, corn hole, and board games). BCB Eats is the brewery's own food truck where customers can go to get some grub!

They also offer themed trivia night monthly. I just founded out that they are hosting The Office trivia night tomorrow - November 8th. Unfortunately, it's sold out. BUT GREAT NEWS! They're having Parks & Rec trivia night December 8th! So uhhh... if you're trying to go, let me know!

When Christian and I first arrived at BCB, it was quite busy. We noticed people were standing around the front section and we were a little confused. Shortly after, we realized that the brewery offers a self-serve station. So, you just simply take your glass, insert your community card, pour your beer, take your card out and enjoy! I really liked this aspect of B.C. It charges you by the ounce so you can get full pours, or 4-5 ounces (sample size) so you can try a variety of beer. Your bill is calculated through your community card. As much as it was tempting, I decided to indulge in the self-serve beer during my next visit.

I really wanted to sit at the bar to get to know the employees, see how they work and interact with them. Luckily, we were able to score some seats there.

Although the brewery is very large and spacious, it does get crowded pretty quickly but the atmosphere was phenomenal. The employees were pleasant and attentive.

The bar offers a large selection of 24 beers on tap. Since the brewery has self-serve, they do not offer flights, so I decided to get the Interstate Dream sour ale. I really enjoyed it! I also sampled a cider called Peach Slapped and another sour called Mar-Gose-Rita which I also liked.

Untappd - Drink Socially

While we were sitting at the bar, Christian had mentioned the app Untappd. I've heard him talk about it a few times but I had no idea what it was. He explained that it's an app with different breweries/beers and you can go on and rate the beer that you're drinking so everyone can see it. The ratings are sometimes displayed if a brewery/bar/liquor store has a TV screen with the rotating list of beers, not the ordinary chalkboards. My new goal is to try and remember to use Untappd whenever I try new beers.

That being said, here is my rating:

Atmosphere - ★★★★★ - B.C. Brewery had a great atmosphere. They offered plenty of seating and a nice family, community type of vibe. I enjoyed the setting, the people and the overall feeling of the brewery. Rich 's focus was to be a tap-room brewery so there are no distributions.

Beer - ★★★★ - I enjoyed the beers that I got but I do wish that they had a little more flavor to them. They just didn't have that complete 'sour' taste.

Employees - ★★★★- The employees here were nice and friendly and service was good.

Location - ★★★ - Another industrial park brewery, which I know is normal. There's just not much else to do... or look at. I like a place with scenery.

Social Media - ★★★★★ - B.C. does a great job managing their social media accounts. They provide unique posts for different platforms to keep the followers engaged.

Total: 4.2 STARS!

Cheers for now!!

Cassidy
