In 2012, Jeffrey and Terri decided to grab some breakfast at a cute little cafe while they were in Maine. They were just browsing the specials menu and noticed something called 'Lavender Lemonade Mead.'

The two inquired about this mead and learned what it was all about.! When they first began home brewing, their mead (Thai-Grr) was so wonderful that it won Grand Champion at the prestigious Texas Mead Cup annual competition. it! And those 3 words (Lavender Lemonade Mead) changed their lives, forever !!

When they arrived home, they focused on home brewing... and soon enough decided to say, "LET'S DO IT!!" and their curiosity turned into a new project for the two.

Jeffrey & Terri, founders of Liquid Alchemy Beverages

After 4 long years later, Liquid Alchemy Beverages opened its doors in Wilmington, DE. Terri really enjoys trying new things so her favorite part of this whole experience is sharing what she's learned and having people try their new meads and ciders.

I guess that explains why their mead have won many different awards! When they first began homebrewing, their mead (Thai-Grr) was so wonderful that it won Grand Champion at the prestigious Texas Mead Cup annual competition.

Liquid Alchemy Ciderworks was also awarded in 2018 by the US Open Cider Competition and GLINTCAP Competitions and received 4 medals for 3 of their flavors.

Award winning ciders and meads

In February of 2018, both Jeff and Terri became one of the select few of the Certified Cider Professionals in this area of the United States. This is only awarded to cider makers who pass an extensive examination.

The two are enjoying this wonderful adventure together and I'm glad I was able to visit this brewery for my blog. When Christian, our friend Shane, and I first pulled up to the brewery, we were able to find a parking spot easily. This signaled to us that the brewery wasn't that busy. They have a decent sized parking lot but seems like it will fill up rather quickly on busier days.

Walking up to the door, we noticed a little outdoor section. Unfortunately, it was late so no one was sitting outside. However, some nights food trucks stop by so the outside area gets some use.

When you first walk into the brewery, you notice that it is decently sized and offers a reasonable amount of seating. The lights are dim and the place gives off a home-y vibe. They also offer a filled little merchandise corner.

Flight at LAB

LAB has a creative layout with the way they use a wooden theme throughout the bar. Wooden tables, bar top and custom flight wood planks. Speaking of flights... That's what Christian and I got. This flight consisted of 7 different meads/ciders. Our flight consisted of their 6 different ciders: Traditions, The-Light Cide(r), Magenta Dragon 2.0, First State Cider, The-Dark-Cide(r) and Deeply-Rooted. The 7th sample we ordered we a mead called Summer-RAZZ-lemonade.

Liquid Alchemy offers a selection of meads and ciders on tap but each one is definitely unique in its own special way. A majority of these beers were high percentage and tasted well. But watch out!! Despite their delicious taste, the beer catches up to you so prepare yourself!! And hey, do yourself a favor and take an Uber!

I really enjoyed interacting with the employees here. The ladies behind the bar were friendly and personable. The owner, Terri, was giving us her opinions of local breweries. She also explained how one of LABs meads is on tap at a new brewery that just opened in Elkton, MD. I will have a review about that brewery, Valhalla, at a later date.

Overall, I enjoyed Liquid Alchemy, the apparel, the beer, the employees and the atmosphere.

That being said, here is my rating:

Atmosphere - ★★★★ - Liquid Alchemy offers a community friendly type of vibe that makes you feel at home.

Beer - ★★★★ - The meads/ciders were decent -- don't get me wrong. However, they had too much of an alcohol taste and was too much of a percentage for me to thoroughly enjoy. Christian enjoyed the mead that he tried and the ciders as well!

Employees - ★★★★- I thought the employees at LAB were pleasant, friendly, and personable. I really enjoyed getting to talk to them and get to know them.

Location - ★★★ - The brewery isn't at the best location, however, they make the best out of it. The brewery could use a larger parking lot as well.

Social Media - ★★★ - Liquid Alchemy does a good job posting about events on Facebook and posting engaging pictures on Instagram. BUT, they are not using their Twitter account which could be holding them back.

Total: 3.6 STARS!

Well, cheers for now!!

Cassidy
