Brewed in the Woods by the Men of Science?

Kennett Brewing Company faced its share of challenges, delaying the realization of its brewing dream. Overcoming hurdles, the brewery finally opened its doors on June 21, 2015. Spearheaded by main brewers Chris Braunstein and Mark Osborne, KBC blossomed into Mark's vision inspired by a visit to Bethlehem Brew Works, introduced to him by his daughter. This encounter with home brewing ignited Mark's fascination, prompting him and Chris to delve into the art and science of brewing.

For Mark, the brewing journey started with research and experimentation, exploring traditional and inventive recipes globally. His dedication bore fruit, with his 5th and 6th batches earning him awards. As the years passed, interest in Mark's beers grew, leading to inquiries about a brewpub. However, Mark wasn't ready for that step just yet.

Embarking on 12 years of research, Mark aimed to develop a unique beer style. Upon perfecting his creation, he partnered with Chris Braunstein to open a brewpub in Kennett Square, PA. Their primary objective was to offer customers an unparalleled beer-tasting experience, believing that everyone deserves extraordinary beer at KBC.

Mark envisioned his brewery as a family affair, with children occasionally pitching in. The brewpub, designed to be family and pet-friendly, seeks to create an environment where patrons can savor their beer while forging connections.

In early July, Christian, his friend Zach, and I visited Kennett Brewing Company after a stop at Victory Brewing Company. The building exuded an underground basement vibe, accessible via a flight of stairs. The brewery's artistic flair caught my attention immediately — from the logo and merchandise to the wall art, posters, and chalkboard. Notably, KBC actively supports local artists, with local teachers crafting their mugs and a regional artist designing their logo.

Seating ourselves at the bar, Christian, Zach, and I indulged in a menu featuring farm-fresh ingredients complementing gourmet pub-style dishes. I opted for buffalo wings, while Christian went for a portobello sandwich — both delicious choices. Our beverage selection comprised a flight of beers whose exact number and names evade my memory, but I distinctly recall enjoying the unique flavors crafted by the skilled brewers. Kennett Brewing Company's commitment to ensuring each beer stands out through diverse ingredients truly shone through.

That being said, here is my rating:

Atmosphere - ★★★★★ - The atmosphere at KBC was unreal. The art all over the walls really makes them stand out. I know a lot of breweries try to incorporate funky art in their buildings but there is just something unique about this place. I liked the underground basement type of feel that it gave as well.

Beer - ★★★★ - The beer was good and enjoyable! I just wish they had more of a variety *hint hint -- more sours **

Employees - ★★★★★ - The beertenders were nice and friendly and checked up on us frequently. They were engaging and interactive which I enjoyed.

Location - ★★★★ - The brewery was in the middle of town. They had a large flag outside so it was easy to identify. Since it's in the middle of the town, there were many things you could go and do nearby. However, they didn't have their own personal parking so you had to park on the street and pay the meter (unless we completely missed their parking lot -- but we didn't see any signs signaling where it was) I liked the underground basement type of feel that it gave as well.

Social Media - ★★★★ - The brewery does a good job using Facebook and Instagram in different ways, however, they haven't used their Twitter in over 4 years which could be a mistake..

Total: 4.4 STARS!

Cheers!!
