In 2016, Revelation made its debut just outside West Rehoboth, DE. Initially, the plan was to set up shop in an old church with the aim of restoring its unique character. However, public reception wasn't favorable, leading to the abandonment of those plans. Co-owners Harry Metcalfe and Bryan Keith, facing this setback, decided to open a small location in West Rehoboth, serving as a tasting room and a test pilot facility. The original vision of a larger location slated for 2017 seems to have evolved, as my research uncovered no information about its opening. It appears that they chose to stick with their initial spot in Rehoboth.
At Revelation, Patrick Staggs takes the lead as the main brewer, drawing on 15 years of homebrewing experience. His journey began with a home brewing kit gift, and despite initial batches tasting subpar, practice and dedication led to improvement. Starting Revelation, Staggs opted for smaller barrel systems, allowing experimentation with different ingredients and taking creative risks.
Upon arrival, the brewery stands out with a spacious gravel parking lot and numerous bike racks, emphasizing its kid, dog, and biker-friendly atmosphere. Cyclists receive a unique browler (a growler designed to fit in a bike water bottle holder) when arriving on their bikes, though the beer itself is a separate purchase. The outdoor area boasts picnic tables and a tent section, creating a cozy ambiance despite the relatively small building. While Revelation doesn't serve food, occasional food trucks add culinary variety to the experience.
Opting for a seat at the bar during their visits, Christian and I noticed a distinctive feature – the bar top adorned with pages from Delaware's Brewing History, a unique touch to the brewery's decor.
Having frequented Revelation twice, they have become avid fans. Both visits involved ordering flights, each comprising four different beer samples. Although specific beers from their visits elude memory, the experiences were undeniably enjoyable. With a rotating selection of around 15 beers on tap, Revelation maintains an ever-changing lineup. Engaging with the staff during visits, the blogger learned about their deep knowledge and experience with all things Revelation. A fascinating insight revealed that every employee undergoes training by brewing with Staggs, contributing to the brewery's unique and informed atmosphere.
That being said, here is my rating:
Atmosphere - ★★★★ - The atmosphere at Revelation gave off a community vibe. The other customers were friendly and striking up conversations with other people. It's a smaller building so you're close to the people you're near.
Beer - ★★★★ - The beer was enjoyable and unique. They offered a wide variety of different beer so everybody can find something that they like!
Employees - ★★★★ - The beertenders were experienced and friendly. They definitely know what they're doing when it comes to beer.
Location - ★★★★ - The brewery was located on the outside of town. I personally think the location is nice since it's near the bike track that is used frequently. I do however think that the building itself is way to small.
Social Media - ★★★ - The brewery utilizes Facebook and Instagram. However, they post the same content throughout the platforms without any differentiation. They haven't used their Twitter since last year and their website could use a little revamping.
Total: 3.8 STARS!
Cheers!!
